RR comes three decades after Benning and Bette Gordon made The United States of America (1975), a cinematic journey along the country’s interstates that is keenly aware “of superhighways and railroad tracks as American public symbols.” A political essay responding to the economic histories of trains as instruments in a culture of hyper-consumption, RR articulates its concern most explicitly when Eisenhower's military-industrial complex speech is heard as a mile long coal train passes through eastern Wyoming. Benning spent two and a half years collecting two hundred and sixteen shots of trains, forty-three of which appear in RR. The locomotives' varying colors, speeds, vectors, and reverberations are charged with visual thrills, romance and a nostalgia heightened by Benning's declaration that this will be his last work in 16mm film.

Although Chicken does not make an appearance, Chan Ho Nam finds a new love interest in the form of Mei Ling. Meanwhile, Tung Sing returns to cause trouble again for Hung Hing, in the form of new leader Szeto Ho Nam.

During a whole month in late 2005, France made the news headlines the world over: rioting in the French suburbs! Young people from the suburbs all over France – often still in college or high school - came together each night to burn dustbins, cars, even schools. The riot prompted the decree of a state of emergency – something that has not been seen in France since the years of the war of independence in Algeria. In an effort towards appeasement, the government made promises to come to the aid of “abandoned” areas. Today, one year later, what has changed for the people in the suburbs? Have they managed to pick up the pieces? Have official bodies managed to transform promises into real measures on the field? Alice Diop - who grew up in neighboring Aulnay – took the temperature of the area in and around Clichy, the place where the riots broke out following the deaths of two of the town’s youngsters who perished in an electrical transformer station while fleeing from the police.

Kako (Fumi Nikaido) is a female high school student. She lives at a restaurant run by her family in Kitashinagawa, Tokyo. Unexpectedly, Kako's aunt, Mikiko (Kyoko Koizumi), suddenly appears. Kako thought her aunt died 18 years ago. Her whole family is embarrassed by Mikiko's appearance due to a past incident caused by Mikiko. Kako is also irritated when Mikiko lives in her room. They spend the summer together.

The graduation ceremony of their son Max is no longer a big excitement for Sabine and Bernd Schröder - after all, they have already successfully brought two older sons through high school. Nonetheless, when the youngest offspring moves out, a new chapter in life begins: They finally have plenty of time for each other and common dreams. At least that's the beautiful theory. Sabine and Bernd have to face the truth: unnoticed by the hustle and bustle of the family, they have drifted apart. Where the offspring once provided common ground, there is suddenly a yawning emptiness. The fact that other couples feel the same way after their children have moved out gives little consolation. And while Bernd continues to bury his head in the sand and hopes for the success of the "sit out" principle, Sabine gets serious. She gives Bernd an ultimatum. Because one thing is clear to them: just continuing like this is out of the question.

The Paragraph Man is the faltering, stumbling, comic, sad and tragic story of an immigrant youngsters journey towards sociopolitical awareness, a very first attempt to understand his true situation as an immigrant in post-colonial Sweden.

In a rendition of a father-daughter conflict based on misunderstandings, this melodrama focuses on Annette (Nurit Cohen) who has left home for the city where she is unexpectedly offered a leading role in a movie. She is excited as she returns home to tell her news to her father (Zeev Revach) -- a truly conservative shopkeeper -- but she is equally anxiety-ridden about his likely reaction.
