The Half-Breed
In an attempt to brand himself as a serious actor, the smiling swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks starred in THE HALF-BREED (1916), a Western melodrama written by Anita Loos and directed with flair by Allan Dwan. Fairbanks stars as Lo Dorman, who has been ostracized from society because of this mixed ethnicity - his Native American mother was abandoned by his white father. When Lo catches the eye of the rich white debutante Nellie (Jewel Carmen), he becomes a target for the racist Sheriff Dunn (Sam De Grasse), who wants to break them up and take Nelli for his own. This love triangle becomes a quadrangle with the arrival of Teresa (Alma Rubens), who is on the run from the law. Through fire and fury Lo must decide who and what he truly loves.
The Lord of the Universe
He was the 16-year-old Guru Maharaj Ji and, as the Millennium approached, he promised to levitate the Huston Astrodome. It was the early Seventies and anything was possible so thousands flocked to his gathering. Follow him from his mansion in New York to the limousines in Houston, listen to his followers and watch the spectacle unfold just as TVTV did in this Alfred I. du Pont award wining documentary.
From Dawn Til Dusk
Directed by Aleks Lewandowski It’s a typical day in the life of the Deathwish gang. The sessions and locations were influenced by gangs, Hollywood, and Los Angeles culture. It wasn’t much of a stretch because skate crews can be very gang-like to begin with. The Deathwish dudes are a tight-knit crew. Overall, I don’t think this is too far from what these guys are actually like. It’s really close to the truth. You wouldn’t be surprised if you saw Jon Dickson on the beach asleep in the morning.—Skin Phillips

Tracey Emin C.V. Cunt Vernacular
Emin's video CV is an accompaniment to her work on paper, Tracey Emin CV 1995 (Tate T07632), which is a potted history of the artist's professional and emotional life from conception until 1995. This CV, read aloud by Emin, constitutes the sound-track to the video and provides contrasting background to the visual information on display. As Emin narrates her story of trauma and abuse, mixed with pleasure and success, the video takes the viewer on a journey through the artist's home. The artist is not visibly present in person until the last frames when she appears curled up naked on the floor of her sitting-room at the feet of her mother (who wears black sunglasses and looks away from both her daughter and the camera). Like Emin's handwritten CV, the video constitutes her self-portrait, in this instance adding the component of a journey around the space of her apartment to her narrating voice. -Tate

Born Balearic: Jon Sa Trinxa and the Spirit of Ibiza
Ibiza. A sun-kissed island in the Mediterranean Sea. At the southernmost part of this island, one DJ has been playing music all day, everyday at the same beach for 25 years. His name is Jon Sa Trinxa. Jon arrived at Ibiza on a hippie bus from London. "Living on an island with the ocean and the sun. That was enough to lure me here." He came to Ibiza penniless, and to make matters worse, a fight with a friend was topped off with a car accident. How did he end up being a DJ at some beachside restaurant after so much misfortune? In paradise with pure freedom, he simply lives by his love of music in search of original musical styles, and DJs with a never-ending passion. His insatiable love for music has uniquely shaped his DJ style unlike any other person in the world. This documentary film portrays Ibiza's music scene and the life of "the legendary DJ of Ibiza" Jon Sa Trinxa who devoted his life to music.—Rinae, Lily
