Madirasi is a 2012 Malayalam action comedy film directed by Shaji Kailas and starring Jayaram, Meera Nandan, Meghana Raj, Kailash, Kalabhavan Mani and Tini Tom.[1] The film is based on a series of true incidents that took place in Madirasi, the Malayalam name for the city of Madras. Madirasi is however described as a part of Coimbatore in the film.

Studio head Joe Mulholland promises his dying producer and mentor, Saul Gritz, to adapt a popular sex manual into a film, despite his better judgment. Unable to figure out how to turn the nonfiction book into a narrative movie, Mulholland enlists the services of Herb Dorman, a screenwriter of popular romantic films with a bad marriage, and volatile director Sid Spokane to help him create a movie.

By using very interesting archival footage and excerpts from old fiction films and by interviewing famous personalities from that time – gynecologists or mothers who were part of the new society - the director revives this period of tremendous oppression of personal freedom. Many deaths were caused by the mere fact that women, including wives of secret Romanian agents, famous TV presenters, and actresses, had to undergo illegal abortions. Many women were jailed for having them.
